1.10.24 My Unique Entry

For twenty years I have created and facilitated customer service training workshops for funeral service professionals. The initial comment I receive when I share that with someone is “Well, I guess that does make sense that a funeral director would need that type of training.” That’s the first thought because it’s usually the deceased clientele that people associate with funeral directors first, not necessarily the living. I still facilitate customer service training courses for funeral directors of all experience levels. In addition to that I teach for a mortuary college. Yes, you read that correctly “mortuary college”. Most people don’t know there is a specific college to become a funeral director. It’s pretty exciting to be a part of students who have dreamed for years to become a funeral director or embalmer.

It wasn’t until I started visiting bourbon distilleries in 2021 on a more regular basis that I realized transferring my workshop skills and customer service background would be an interesting endeavor. I notice many young people working at distilleries who are enthusiastic about bourbon and furthering their careers in the industry. Not only are they great participants in training workshops they are always very appreciative of the content and skills presented. In a world, where many of us spend a great deal of time on our mobile devices, revisiting key communication skills to better connect with others is always needed.

With the expertise and mentorship of Tim Knittle of Distilled Living, I have created a hospitality training program specially designed for frontline distillery team members. I cover a wide range of topics in seven hours. And yes, I said seven. This workshop will debut on June 13th at Moonshine University. I’m excited to bring my customer service/hospitality knowledge and energy to helping frontline team members of all experience levels who will go on to craft exceptional experiences for guests.
